The biggest variable is the type of damp. Rising damp (a new chemical DPC plus re-plastering) is the most labour-intensive and sits at the top of the range. A quote that doesn't first say which type you have is a guess.
A real damp-proofing price includes diagnosis (moisture meter, checking ground levels and drainage), the treatment itself, removal and disposal of salt-contaminated plaster, breathable salt-resistant re-plastering, and a written guarantee. The cheap quotes that 'come back' almost always skip the re-plaster and the cause.
Get two or three quotes for the same scope. Be wary of anyone who quotes over the phone without seeing the wall, who blames everything on rising damp (it's over-diagnosed), or who won't put a guarantee in writing.
